Maghrib prayer time: when it starts and ends المغرب
Today in Makkah: 6:10 PM to 7:40 PM · All prayer times for Makkah
When does Maghrib start?
Maghrib starts at sunset, once the whole disc of the sun is below the horizon.
When does Maghrib end?
In the Shafi‘i, Maliki and Hanbali schools, Maghrib ends when the red twilight disappears. Abu Hanifa held that it lasts until the white twilight disappears. In the Jafari school, Maghrib and Isha share one time until midnight.
How many rak‘ahs is Maghrib?
3 fard rak‘ahs, followed by sunnah prayers (2 rak‘ahs in the Sunni schools, 4 in the Jafari school).
Where the schools differ
The Jafari school waits until the redness in the eastern sky has passed overhead, a few minutes after sunset. SalaahDaily uses the sun at about 4° below the horizon for this.
